Reddit: A Space to call home.

Reddit is an enormous community filled with many different type of people. Millions of users log into Reddit on a daily bases sharing what they have learnt during the day or and events that may have happened. With the millions of people logging in, the higher the chance that two of these people may have had the chance encounter of the same event occurring. The internet is a vast space but people are connected in a lot more ways than they may believe.

The space that Reddit makes allows for the multiple connections through ‘Subreddits’. These allow for users to go to a certain ‘Subreddit’ and connect to the people with the same interest, which in turn allows for more connections between the ‘Subreddit’ that the users have a common interest in and others that they may like to frequent. But because of the anonymity that Reddit allows, it also give the users a sense of security when posting to the sites. Reddit is a space of community and a place of security, ‘“Space" and “Place" are familiar words denoting common experiences’ (Yi-Fu Tuan, Pg.1). We ‘live’ in the space that Reddit permits us and allows us the freedom to post, but also Reddit is a place that give us security and peace of mind to post our knowledge/feelings. A video from Tedx Talks (Gioia, 2012) displays that having a sense of place is by people enjoying art, and if you were to change art to Reddit posts, it shows that we want people to respond to our post so that we have a place on the website.

Reddit is a community drive website that give people a place to enjoy on the internet which allows us to feel welcome and safe.
